Crews will be working at 3 locations over the next week to accomplish water pipeline improvements. Our contractor will be installing new water mains while the City water operations crews will be making connections to residences and businesses.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as work is performed in very tight corridors. We are working to minimize the parking we take out and to limit dust and debris as much as possible. Without closing down the streets entirely, this is a very demanding work for the crews in multiple locations.
Sanchez@ Market and 15th: Crew is digging under the MUNI tracks. This will require open pits on north and south side of Market Street. Northeast sidewalk will be closed while others will remain open with flagger for safety.
Sanchez between 16th and 18th: City water operations crews are making service connections and pressure testing. Sidewalks will remain open.
19th between Sanchez and Noe: No construction activity scheduled until the following week. However, construction equipment and pipe will remain while the crew prepares work. We have requested that the crews to remove all extraneous items at the end of the week.

In regards to parking - this monthly release of 'No Parking' signs is a big tease - any way you can just put the final construction date on the signs and let us know how long you think the parking on Sanchez will be non-existant?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I saw some DPT people ticketing cars today after 7am, which I thought was pretty messed up.
We're still investigating the ticketing. Our Project Manager says the contractor did not call. More later...
ReplyDeleteAs you can see, we have a lot going on along Sanchez. The work is in phases first the water main installation, then connections to homes and businesses, and finally the paving. Closer to Market, we are digging under the streets and MUNI tracks to install water main pipelines. The plan is to be completely out of upper Sanchez by the end of August and across Market by early October.
As for the NO PARKING restrictions, the contractor is making a concerted effort not to take out any more parking than is necessary, but still be prepared to accommodate different crews in all three phases.
Is there any way at all that some arrangement can be made with the school on 17th between Church & Sanchez to help with residential parking? For those of us in the vicinty of 17th & 18th and Sanchez it's been since mid-April that parking has been not just scarce but incredibly scarce.
ReplyDeleteCity residents understand that tight parking is part of living in the city, but it's getting intolerable. And to think it'll continue through August is..well...seriously, do something.
At this point you need to do something to ease the frayed nerves of reidents in this area. It's getting bad.
In your specific block, it will be tight through June 30. Then, the contractor will move on and return in late July for the next phase. The parking signs will be removed in the interim. You're living through history, this is a once in a century rebuild of your water delivery system. Much of these mains haven't been touched since the early 1900s. And you're not alone, we are doing both sewer and water throughout much of Pacific Heights currently. We will cross over to Russian Hill and then North Beach this summer.
ReplyDeleteAs for parking, regrettfully, it's an issue. Church Street is unimpeded or you may try further along Hancock, Hartford or 17th. We are asking the contractor to remove any NO PARKING signs that they can each evening.

ReplyDeleteIt's great that the signs are removed at night, but daytime parking is the issue - one of the reasons many of us live in the city is proximity to public transport to get us to work and for other things. Many of us with cars don't drive to work - so daytime parking is key. But there are times I need the car. I'm aware of the options along Church, Hancock, Sanchez up the hill on 19th, etc. The problem is akin to stuffing 20 lbs of sausage into a 15lb case. There's only so much slack.
How about some abatement of street sweeping when construction is on-going? That might at least help ease the crunch. There must be some kind of creative solution beyond "keep driving and looking for a spot".
